Exodus 19:5 KJV
Now, therefore, if ye will obey my voice indeed, and keep my covenant, then ye shall be a peculiar treasure unto me above all people: for the earth (is) mine (KJV)
This comes in a time when God was instructing Moses to convey his message to the children of Israel, and he went ahead to attach a promise to it once they avail obedience to his instructions.
What is obedience?
True obedience involves hearing of the word of God, believing/ trusting in the word and acting accordingly.
That means after listening God’s instruction, one needs to surrender and submit in faith to allow the word work in him.
This was seen in Genesis: 12:1 Abraham didn’t stagger at God’s promise but was fully persuaded that he who that had sent him was also able to fulfill his promises
Obedience is an act of faith therefore for someone to partake of the reward of obedience, one must have had faith in the word before it comes to its fulfillment because the God we serve is a God of within to without.
We see obedience oftenly being rewarded on several occasion in the bible. (Joshua 1:8) whenever God would instruct someone he had to attach it with a reward; this teaches us that He values obedience even than sacrifices(1 samuel 15:22) and also to stimulate our trust in Him the author and finisher of our faith.
As we read the word, lets take heed of every instruction, believe and trust every bit of it and apply our hearts unto it then act in accordance to the word so as to yield results(John 14:21).
Actions are the physically signs that show that someone has finally obeyed the message so until you actively participating in doing as instructed then obedience has not come to its fulfillment (James:1:22)
