Philippians 3:8 KJV
Yea doubtless, and I count all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them [but] dung, that I may win Christ,

THE SACRIFICE FOR THE EXCELLENCY OF THE KNOWLEDGE OF CHRIST
In Prov 3:5 the Bible instructs us not to lean on our own understanding, but this instruction is also extended in the process where one is acquiring for the excellency in the knowledge of Christ.
Excellency in the knowledge of Christ is a place of carrying a full and pure divine counsel about the knowledge of Christ.

A man to get acquainted to the perfect knowledge of God has to count all things loss. This act is to usher someone in the place where his heart is broken enough to yield to the Holy Spirit to give him a pure insight or interpretation in the knowledge of Christ, not basing on what he knows.

Excellency is obtained when a man puts down his ego or what he seems to know (the experience) and submit to the ministry of the Spirit to reveal to him new things.
The main point here is that we don't receive the full counsel of the Word by our own experiences but it's from you yielding to the Holy Spirit and interpret the Word by the power of the Spirit.

GOLDEN NUGGET
Excellency of the knowledge of Christ is received when one puts down all what he seems to know and focus on the ministration of the Spirit in the revealing of revelations in Christ.
