THE POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS

Image
THE POWER IN THE NAME OF JESUS Elgon Bible Study Department Monday, 31st July 2023 Philippians 2:9-11 KJV Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.   In one of our Devotionals we learnt about the role of the parents in our spiritual walk whereby one of the ways they do so is in the inspiration God gives them in regard of our names.    The Jewish culture believes that names carry a great impact on someone's life whereby they define or influence your character. In our theme scripture the Word is telling us how God gave Jesus a name above all other names. But we have to note that according to the wisdom of God, names defines our identity and positions in the Spirit - authority. Now we understand why Ap ...

BEFORE THE FOUNDATIONS, HE KNEW US

Image
BEFORE THE FOUNDATIONS, HE KNEW US Wednesday 26th July 2023. Elgon BIble Study department. Ephesians 1:4 (MSG) Long before He laid down the earth's foundations, He had us in mind, had settled on us as the focus of His love, to be be made whole and Holy by His love.  Rick Warren wrote in his book purpose driven live that, "It's only in God where we can discover our origin, identity, meaning, purpose, significance and destiny". He knew all about us before we came to be, when, where and to who we were to be born, including our purpose and destiny. He is the author of us, and nothing about us is new or hidden from Him. The fullest of us can only be revealed to us when we focus on Him who knew us before we were. Focusing on ourselves will never reveal the fullest of our life's purpose but rather focusing on God will.   Even in all what we do, the fullest of result is when we seek and understand His plan and will for us. Prov 16:3 tells us to commit our work...

ACCOUNTABILITY OF A STEWARD

Image
ACCOUNTABILITY OF A STEWARD Tuesday 25th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. Luke 16:2 KJV  And he called him, and said unto him, How is it that I hear this of thee? give an account of thy stewardship; for thou mayest be no longer steward. A steward, is one who has been entrusted with the management of someone else's possessions or resources, recognizes that everything they have ultimately belongs to Him, and their role is to manage these resources in a way that aligns with His purposes. To us, He has entrusted so many great treasures, gifts and mysteries of the kingdom, to these, we are stewards. As stewards, we have not only been entrusted with God's resources but also with the responsibility to use them wisely and for His purposes. Each of us will be held accountable for how we have managed them.  In our theme verse, the steward is called to give accountability of his stewardship as regard the masters possessions. Unfortunately for him, he had mishandled his...

WE HAVE OVERCOME

Image
WE HAVE OVERCOME Monday 24th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. 1 John 4:4 (AMP)  Little children, you are of God [you belong to Him] and have [already] defeated and overcome them [the agents of the antichrist], because He Who lives in you is greater (mightier.) than he who is in the world. Our victory over the devil and all his schemes against us is through Jesus Christ our Lord who already won the victory for us. Praise the Lord. We can not talk about any victory over the works of the devil while we are outside Christ, there is not such a thing. The greater one inside of us is the source of our victory. We therefore have to strengthen our being in Christ, we ought to be in Him at all times, we have to establish a conducive dwelling for Him in our lives and our everything for His presence is our victory. A man who sees his victory in his sword or spear ensures he is with it always and it is in good state, we too have to ensure we are in Christ because there in is ...

HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF

Image
HOW DO YOU SEE YOURSELF Thursday 20th July, 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department   Numbers 13:33 (NKJV)  There we saw the giants (the descendants of Anak came from the giants); and we were like grasshoppers in our own sight, and so we were in their sight."  How do you see yourself How you see yourself in your own sight greatly defines how other people will see you It is seen in the scripture that after these men had spied on the land they came back to the congregation with a bad report based on their observation saying they won't be able to take over the promised land simply because they saw gigantic people in that land and according to them they were like grasshoppers(inferiors) in their own sight and in the sight of Anaks(superiors) God himself had given this promised land to the Israelites but because they saw strong rivals in the land, fear covered them and these men staggered at God's promise. Many times God has made promises to us but what limits us from yi...

UNLESS THE LORD BUILDS

Image
UNLESS THE LORD BUILDS Wednesday 19th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. Psalm 127:1 (TPT)  If God’s grace doesn’t help the builders, they will labor in vain to build a house. If God’s mercy doesn’t protect the city, all the sentries will circle it in vain. Our very best at its best without God yields no good at all.  We can try out all things with all our strength but at the end of it all, it is Him that gives life to our efforts. Our theme scripture shows us this, that effort to build without help from God by His grace is all nothing. In other words He is overall and has authority over it. In all that we do, know that it is the Lord who gives it life. Bearing fruits that shall last is only possible if the lord is in the story. Our own understanding and sharpness without God in it leads no where. We on ourselves failed to live up to God's way and were destined for destruction but He chose to graciously come through to help us live to what we had failed. It wi...

CONFIDENCE IN THE LORD

Image
CONFIDENCE IN THE LORD Tuesday 18th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. Daniel 3:17-18 NKJV  If that [is] [the case,] our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver [us] from your hand, O king. But if not, let it be known to you, O king, that we do not serve your gods, nor will we worship the gold image which you have set up." God is faithful forever and we must with an unwavering faith hold on to Him regardless of the existing controversies on the physical realm because He is who He us.  However confidence in Him however comes when we know and understand who He is for ourselves. How much we know and understand Him and His ways will tell our confidence in Him. In our theme verse, these three knew their God whom they served. They knew very well that He would come through for them even when the fire was added seven times, they did not shake.  They stood, not compromising the standard but confidently waiting on...

ALONG WITH THOSE OF LIKE-MIND

Image
ALONG WITH THOSE OF LIKE-MIND Monday 17th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. 2 Timothy 2:22 NKJV Flee also youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace with those who call on the Lord out of a pure heart. We become a new creation when we be born again, recieve a new life, and are are on a new journey/race to run, following the path of Christ day by day. Paul writes to timothy, guiding and instructing him on this journey, a path in which he had passed and in our theme verse, he tells him to walk along with those who are seeking God with a pure heart. It was good for him in his pursuit for Godly living to walk along with men of like vision/desire, those who too sought the Lord out of pure heart as he did. Along with us in the christian walk, we need men of a like mind, who we have similar goals and desires. These are the men that will encourage, stand with us and strengthen us when we go weary.  Men of like mind around will help watch with us, hold us...

RECEIVING AS A CHILD

Image
RECEIVING AS A CHILD Saturday 15th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. Mark 10:15 KJV Verily I say unto you, Whosoever shall not receive the kingdom of God as a little child, he shall not enter therein. Receiving the kingdom of God as a child refers to approaching our faith with the same innocence, trust, and dependency that children have. Children are naturally curious and open-minded, willing to learn and accept new truths. In our relationship with God, this means being receptive and humble, willing to learn from Him and accept His guidance. To truly receive the kingdom of God as a child, we must approach Him with a genuine desire to know Him, to learn from His Word, and to surrender our lives to His will. We must  recognize our need for Him and acknowledge that we cannot save ourselves. Just as a child relies on their parents for everything, we rely on God for our salvation and every aspect of our lives. JOT OF VERACITY With humility, trust, innocence, dependency...

THE POWER TO CHANGE US

Image
THE POWER TO CHANGE US Thursday 13th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. Romans 8:11 NKJV But if the Spirit of Him who raised Jesus from the dead dwells in you, He who raised Christ from the dead will also give life to your mortal bodies through His Spirit who dwells in you. When we become born again, we receive the Holy spirit. The bible says we are joined to Christ and so become one spirit with Him! Praise the Lord. He is not a powerless Spirit but a powerful one, that's why He is able to lead the sons of God, and change their living from carnal living to spiritual living The Spirit in you is the same that raised Jesus, He was at the creation and this Spirit the bible says is not of fear but of power love, sound mind and sonship. Now this Holy Spirit in you is able to transform everything about you, He is able to guide your conduct, and outward behavior, to make even the body and soul align with Him as long as you submit to Him. He is more powerful than both the s...

POSITIVE THINKING

Image
POSITIVE THINKING Wednesday 12th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. Philippians 4:8 (KJV) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. After he had told them to keep anxiety away, and to pray in all things with thanksgiving and the peace of the Lord will guard them, he now tells them to think right. To think about the things which are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, good and which are praise worthy. This creates in us a good state that is able to give the right response to circumstances. As a man thinks so is he, and also what comes out of us is determined by what fills our inside. Thinking rightly always will give room for us to produce the same in response to any external demand. Let's always endeavor to think right, of the things tha...

REJOICE IN THE LORD

Image
REJOICE IN THE LORD Tuesday 11th May 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department Philippians 4:4 AMP Rejoice in the Lord always [delight, gladden yourselves in Him]; again I say, Rejoice! To rejoice is a call to joy and often used as a salutation. Sometimes, Jesus would walk into a room and immediately call people to joy. Joy is more than just happiness.  In all circumstances, regardless of what is taking place on the outside, we ought to rejoice always in the Lord. This rejoicing comes because of the assurance that we have in Christ, about what He has said and promised. This provokes positiveness even in challenging times because you know Him who you trusted is faithful. Our rejoicing comes when we understand and believe the word of God about us, when we cast all our cares to Him and allow Him take the lead in all things/affairs of life, knowing that he has only good plans for us. JOT OF VERACITY Our rejoicing comes when we understand and believe the word of God about us, when w...

ACCESS THROUGH CHRIST

Image
ACCESS THROUGH CHRIST Saturday 8th July 2023 Bible Study Department. Hebrews 10:19-22 NKJV Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, by a new and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, and [having] a High Priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. We have an incredible privilege as believers through Christ, that through His sacrifice, He  opened up a new and living way for us to enter into the presence of God boldly with confidence, knowing that we have been cleansed and forgiven. By Christ's sacrifice, we have been made worthy of an everlasting relationship with the Father, and recieved access through Him to the throne of grace, the holy of holies from where we receive grace upon grace. This access is given to us by the one who is most powerful, with a n...

THE HEART

Image
THE HEART Friday 7th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. Daniel 6:14 NKJV  And the king, when he heard [these] words, was greatly displeased with himself, and set [his] heart on Daniel to deliver him; and he labored till the going down of the sun to deliver him. The heart refers to the innermost part of our being.  It is associated with our spiritual, emotional, and intellectual lives. The bible says out of it comes issues of life. Daniel was a devote man, serving the Lord, and also in the king's service, as the most excellent and most preferred by the King.  Conspiracy is made by other servants and a decree signed by king against Daniel. The king on the otherwise after realizing the outcome of his decree regrets it and "set [his] heart on Daniel to deliver him" The king had already signed a decree and it was well known to him and all the land that it could not be changed, but see him, he laboured till the going down of the sun to deliver Daniel because hi...

PEACE WITH GOD

Image
PEACE WITH GOD Thursday 6th July 2023 Elgon Bible Study Department. ROMANS 5:1 (NKJV) “Therefore having been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ”. Peace with God is the link that securely binds a true believer to Jesus Christ and we have this peace through Jesus Christ. The most significant attack Satan wages against Christians is raising doubt about the reality and security of their salvation.  He continually promotes the destructive notion of a works-righteousness system as a means of salvation, thus making the preservation of one’s salvation totally dependent upon the believer’s faithfulness. The Bible however teaches us about salvation, that it comes only on the basis of God’s grace working through man’s faith. It's only through Jesus that we have peace with God. We were ever enemies of God, Yet every individual who believes in Christ is justified and receives reconciliation with God, which also brings peace with Him.  And t...
