He who follows Me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life.  I AM THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD By the time Jesus was talking to His disciples, He had not yet been delivered to the hands of the Jews for crucifixion. This means He had not yet won the hearts of men from eternity. Jesus therefore says '"He who follows me will not be walking in the dark, but will have the Light which is Life"'. It's not until He died on the cross and conquered death that He was able to shine in the deepest parts of darkness. After His resurrection, He tells us that I am the resurrection and the Life because this life has been tested from death of the Son of God. Therefore He is the Light that gives life to men. The times when animals were offered as sacrifices, they were first examined wether they were without Blemish. But God is asking us to be holy, devoted, consecrated and well pleasing to Him as a sacrifice of worship before He can burn because He is the Fire.
